Kim Potter singer, songwriter & guitarist, is following in the tradition of kiwi songsmiths of the last few decades. Using a loop sampler, he plays, records, loops and stacks layer after layer of beats, riffs, hooks, melodies, harmonies and sweet curving lyrics, to arrive (usually half way through the song) at a full band arrangement... We're in search of a bassist - we're all in our early twenties, so someone a little, er, 'younger' might make sense, but we're open to most things - so why not the age of a bassist?

I was listening to an old recording of Channel Z from February 2005, and they played this very catchy song. Sounds a lot like the Beatles influence, later power pop like the Smithereens. Male vocals and the lyrics as best I have them:

four piece rock band needs competent bassist. one female vocalist on keys, one drummer and two guitarists. all awesome musicians, average age late 20s. lilting rock music with some grunge needs phat bass riffs. vocal style similar to amy lee, lyrics dark too. not gigging yet, just starting up but hoping to get some by the end of the year.

I heard a wicked song during State of Play on kiwifm this weekend. It had a harmonica, a bluesy riff and shouted verses & chorus. I totally misheard the chorus and, of course, they didn't announce the name of the song so I am hoping that somebody here might help. The nearest I can tell, the chorus is something like "lightning 70s children". Does that ring a bell?
