I've just read the awful story of the final weeks of torture, then death of Duwayne Pailegutu. See today's herald for the full story. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10572666
The sentences passed down in relation to this do not fit the crime. Not severe enough. The mother especially has gotten off lightly, and she is appealing. The bottom line is the taxpayer pays for everything here: The court-time, lawyers, prisons, social workers, police time, basically everything. I'm sick of paying tax to a limp-wristed government in a crime riddled country. It is sickening.

The tax-payer will pay for the incarceration too. Are we sick of this? Because it will cost more too have harsher sentences?
I do not know...it is hard to not be revolted by events such as this
but successive Governments failing to look after it's citizens in preference to commerce and business will have it's costs.
The death sentence is appropriate here. It's also the cheapest option. Just my personal view.
er, often the death penalty, or capital punishment is more expensive than prison. It certainly is in the USA
unless we go some summary justice.
but that may not be justice, I guess.
