"It was a defeat of epic proportions. The Bermudan women's cricket team crawled to 13 all out - and South Africa overhauled them from just four balls.
As usual in cricket, the true drama was in the statistics. Batting first in a World Cup qualifier at Stellenbosch University yesterday, the Bermudans took 18 overs to score their 13. Three players scored a run each and extras top-scored with 10. The mainstay of the innings was skipper Linda Mienzer, who stayed at the crease for 60 minutes, facing 48 balls for her one.
In reply, the South Africans took just four legal deliveries to reach their target after Bermudan opening bowler Terry-Lynn Paynter bowled nine wides and a no-ball in her opening over.
Mienzer said she was extremely proud. "In terms of women's cricket Bermuda has come a long way, but we still have a long way to go."
Estimated damages: $717 million; 3,100 businesses affected by rioting or looting
In the months ahead, some deaths will be found not to be riot-related and the death toll will be adjusted to 54. The damage estimate will be adjusted to nearly $1 billion.
BREAKING NEWS: The government has raided suspected spammers in Christchurch, part of what it claims is an international junk mail operation.
It is believed to be New Zealand's first anti-spam operation.
The Internal Affairs Department's anti-spam unit executed four search warrants simulataneously, seizing 22 computers and boxes of documents from four Christchurch addresses.
Anti-spam investigators interviewed two Christchurch businessmen as part of the operation, the result of two-months of work with international agencies, Internal Affairs deputy secretary Keith Manch said.
They are checking claims the business organised people across the world to send spam on its behalf, using junk mail to offer watches and pharmaceutical products.
The operation was nearly spoiled after a recent BBC news report alerted the business to the investigation.
"We had to move quickly to capture evidence supporting the spamming allegations, obtaining search warrants and mobilising search teams," Manch said.
"We will now assess the information obtained from the computers, documents and interviews before deciding what action will follow."
The investigation is the first under New Zealand's anti-spam laws, which came into law in September.
Maximum penalties include a fine of $500,000 for an organisation or $200,000 for a person.
