New Zealand rock artists go at it alone!

Four Auckland based rock artists have recently finished their self funded $40,000 debut album produced at Studio 203 late December 2007. The four piece rock band ‘Miscreant’ decided to go at it alone spending over $10,000 each in production and marketing costs. The four artists spent 6 months in the studio sweating it out to produce a quality product they could sell to the world. With the current Music Business Industry at a crossroad and record deals becoming sparse, this is a high risk investment for unsigned artists who are getting out there, especially for those on an average New Zealand income.

CD and digital sales are declining and music theft is at an all time high forcing artists to launch their own promotional and marketing plans. Unsigned local bands such as Miscreant are using money from their own pockets and putting the future of their success into their own hands by putting pressure on their personal resources and contacts. “Entrepreneurial and networking skills have never been more important to an artist” confesses Miscreants lead guitarist David Edtmaier. Trends in the music industry show cases like these are increasing; it is a classic example of the necessary risks young New Zealand artists are faced with in today’s music world.

Nevertheless, this awesome new rock funk band is powering on and is now an emerging talentwithin the local New Zealand Music scene. Look out for their new debut album 'Complicated Characters' out soon!

Hi abby99

I wish you the best of luck with your debut album - on our official website, we can advertise your album and your band. See my recent blog on this website for more information or head into our website: www-blakelock-recording-studio.com.

Our website has not been up long, but once it is out there, I'm sure this section of the site will be very usefull for all NZ bands and Artists of all genres as you will be able to network and plan tours and gigs alot easier if you are doin' it solo (as you are) and not under a record label.

So, let all your friends know that have bands/groups etc that they want to advertise, it is absolutely free and is just there for you all to use as you want. You can also advertise any of your myspace/bebo pages etc that surfers can go into directly from our website with a click of a button.

Once again, all the best with your album, we would love to hear a copy of it, if you do have any of the tracks available on another website.

Regards
Chantelle Blakelock

Four Rockstars Go It Alone !!!

And Wonder Why They Can't Sell Their Records Because Music Shops Refuse Sell Anything That's At Least On Recognize Independent Label ( I Know Jb Hi Fi / Cd Shop Store Policy In Buying New Music, I've Worked At Real Groovy / Write For Real Groove ) Wonder Why They Can't Get Airtime On Commercial TV / Radio ( Independant Means Not Commercial, That's Cool, There Is Alt Tv, Try Them While They're Still Around Sort Of ) And Wonder How Touring Is Gonna Pay Back Costs Producing An Album When If Nobody There Hear Your Stuff, Nobody In Significant Numbers Is Gonna Turn Up ! Sorry ! I Know We All Like To Live Out This Dream That Independent Labels Is Best Thing Ever, The Thing Is I've Been There, And That I Know The Thing Is With Dreams, You Have To Be Asleep To Believe In It ...

well thats quiet a strong opinion you have there... but you are looking at it all kinda backwards, Miscreant (and probably other artists) arent looking to sell their records without a distributor and are not trying to make their costs back alone by independent CD sales and touring... basically what they have done is put their money where their mouth is, they believe in their product so they went all out to make the best damn copy of it they could, and its god damn awesome. They have now sent it into various radio stations who are very excited about their work. Both the rock and the edge have got togeather regarding the album to decide on a single they want to release that will suit and fit both their stations, this is currently in process. Once this is done they have offered Miscreant a one month block on the slab etc. Miscreant will take it from there... and air time = nation wide coverage = listeners = money!! There you have it. Dreams are every where, and they are very real and awake.

Peace,

Robsta is just plain rude - what a hater, perhaps from his own personal experience - what he says may be true, but it is one mans opinion and lucky for everyone else, his one opinion doesnt really matter! You will find support elsewhere!
Guess what, I must be a figment of my own imagination, because I'm livin' my dream as are many other people I know!!! hahaha
